A vision board is a form of constant reminder of where you are going in life. If you want to point yourself in a particular direction, then a vision board might be helpful.

Some benefits of a vision board are that it reminds you who you want to be. This clarity can have a positive effect on impulse control. If I am constantly reminded that I see myself as fit, I will be less inclined to select a donut for breakfast since fit people don’t do that. A vision board can also trigger the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon in our lives. This is also known as “the frequency illusion”. It causes us to notice things that align with our intentions that we might have otherwise missed if we didn’t have those intentions. In other words, opportunities for self-improvement can become more obvious to us when we have a clear mental vision of the improvements we want to make.

In the video below, James Lawley introduces the concept of the vision board and offers suggestions on how to create one.

A vision board can be part of a broader program of positive habit reinforcement. I discuss a behavior modification method surprisingly based on brainwashing techniques. See it in this post: Brainwash Yourself to Be Better
