What is Flow State?

What is Flow State?

Flow state is a mental condition where you become fully absorbed in what you’re doing. Your attention is completely focused, distractions fade away, and time often seems to pass quickly or even disappear.

In flow, your skills are well matched to the challenge in front of you. Your task is difficult enough to be engaging, but not so hard that it creates anxiety. Actions feel smooth and almost effortless, even though you’re performing at a high level. People often describe flow as “being in the zone,” where work feels deeply satisfying and progress happens naturally.

Many of us go through life experiencing flow state only accidentally, perhaps while playing a sport or a video game. Dancing to music we love can also be a trigger. But for the majority of us, these activities will not produce any real achievement, just momentary distraction from the grind.

It seems that people who excel in life, career, wealth generation, health & fitness, etc. are able to find the flow state when performing productive tasks that the rest of us would consider work. You’ve probably heard a variation of the following quote.

If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.

This is all fine and good, but most people never find a way to earn a living doing what they love. We struggle to squeeze what we love into the spaces left over after our day-jobs and family responsibilities. But what if there was a method for discovering different tasks that could get us into flow state and be productive and helpful to others? If we haven’t found these tasks for ourselves yet, then it makes sense to keep searching. The article and infographic below can help you on this journey.
